How Can I Stay Motivated When Everything Feels Overwhelming?

Dear Lyfteenites,

I know exactly what it feels like to wake up in the morning and already feel drained, like your brain is too full of tasks, expectations, and worries. You want to be motivated, to get things done, to push forward, but instead, you just feel stuck. I’ve been there, too. Especially during exam weeks, or when family life felt tense, or when friendships felt shaky, I found myself just wanting to crawl under the covers and block everything out.

It’s in these moments, when life feels like too much, that staying motivated feels hardest. But I learned a few things that really helped me, and I hope they’ll help you too.

First, I realized that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed. You don’t have to force yourself to be super productive every day. Some days are just harder than others, and it’s important to give yourself permission to breathe and reset. God’s Word in Matthew 11:28 reminds us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Whenever I felt overwhelmed, I would close my eyes and pray, asking God for strength and peace. It didn’t always solve everything immediately, but it gave me the hope to keep trying.

One thing that helped me was breaking tasks down into smaller, manageable steps. Instead of thinking, “I have to study for five hours today,” I’d tell myself, “Let’s just focus on 30 minutes, then take a break.” That way, I wasn’t as likely to procrastinate or feel paralyzed by the big picture.

I also discovered the power of rewards. After finishing a tough assignment or getting through a stressful day, I’d treat myself maybe by watching my favorite show, listening to music, or texting a friend. These little rewards helped me associate effort with positive feelings, which made it easier to stay motivated the next time.

Most importantly, I leaned on my support system. Talking to my mom, a teacher, or even just a friend helped me clear my head and refocus. Sometimes they’d offer advice; other times, they’d just listen. Either way, it made me feel less alone.

Lyfteenites, remember this: feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means you’re human. Take one step at a time. Trust God’s timing. Rest when you need to. And always, always believe that you’re capable of more than you know.

You’ve got this.

Rooting for you,

Lyfteen Hub
